The 1996 Canadian 10-cent coin, commonly known as the dime, features on its reverse side the iconic Bluenose schooner, a celebrated Canadian racing and fishing vessel symbolizing the maritime heritage of Nova Scotia and the country’s fishing industry. This design by Emanuel Hahn, first issued in 1937, depicts the schooner under full sail on the open sea, surrounded by the inscriptions “CANADA,” the face value “10 CENTS,” and the year “1996.” The obverse side displays the right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Dora de Pedry-Hunt, showing her at age 64 with the inscription “ELIZABETH II D · G · REGINA.” The coin is made of nickel, weighs 2.07 grams, measures 18.03 mm in diameter, and has a reeded edge, with a mintage of 51,814,000 pieces produced by the Royal Canadian Mint. It remained magnetic due to its metal composition from that period.
