2019 – 1 Dollar Loonie Canada

The 2019 Canadian 1 dollar coin, also known as the “Loonie,” is a circulation coin made of brass-plated steel with a weight of 6.27 grams and a diameter of 26.5 mm. The obverse sides feature an uncrowned bust of Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt, while the classic reverse design shows a common loon, a symbol of Canada, designed by Robert R. Carmichael. Additionally, there is a special edition called the 2019 Equality coin, which commemorates the 50th anniversary of decriminalizing homosexuality in Canada, featuring a reverse design by artist Joe Average that symbolizes diversity, equality, and inclusion with intertwined faces reflecting gender fluidity and spectrum of genders. This special coin includes bilingual inscriptions “EQUALITY” and “ÉGALITÉ,” the dates “1969” and “2019,” and incorporates a maple leaf security feature for authenticity. The regular circulation Loonie coin retains its historic symbolism and is magnetic due to its steel core.
