The Canadian 25-cent “Celebration” coin from 2000 was part of the Millennium series, designed to look forward to the future as part of a national contest. The reverse side, designed by Laura Paxton, features the Canadian nation beneath fireworks, with bilingual inscriptions “CANADA” and “CELEBRATION 2000 CÉLÉBRATION.” The obverse shows Queen Elizabeth II, aged 64, wearing a new crown; this effigy was the first designed by a Canadian, Dora de Pédery-Hunt. The coin has a face value of 25 cents, weighs approximately 4.4 grams, measures 23.88 mm in diameter, and is made primarily of steel with copper and nickel plating. Over 34 million of these coins were minted. There is also a collectible version with colored details showcasing a Canadian flag with fireworks, produced in proof-like condition with a limited mintage of 25,000 pieces.
