1929 – 1 Cent Canada – Low 9

The 1929 Canadian 1 cent coin known as the “Low 9” variety features a design with King George V on the obverse and two maple leaves on a twig on the reverse. It was minted in a composition of 95.5% copper, 3% tin, and 1.5% zinc, weighing 3.24 grams and measuring 19.05 mm in diameter with a plain edge. The coin was produced in a circulation mintage of approximately 12,159,840 pieces by the Royal Canadian Mint, and the design was created by Sir Edgar Bertram Mackennal (obverse) and Fred Lewis (reverse). This variety is distinguished from the “High 9” by the positioning of the last digit of the year date, with the “Low 9” having the last ‘9’ lower in the date inscription.
