The 1961 Canadian 1 cent coin is a bronze coin containing 98% copper, 0.5% tin, and 1.5% zinc, with a weight of 3.24 grams and a diameter of 19.05 mm. It features the young Queen Elizabeth II wearing a laurel wreath on the obverse side, designed by Mary Gillick, and the reverse displays two maple leaves on the same twig, a design by G.E. Kruger-Gray. The coin has a plain edge, is non-magnetic, and was minted by the Royal Canadian Mint with a mintage of around 139.6 million pieces. The legend on the obverse reads “ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA,” and on the reverse “1 CENT 1961 CANADA.” This coin was a regular circulation coin and today may hold more value for collectors, especially in uncirculated condition.
