The 1976 Canadian 1 cent coin is a small circulation coin composed of 98% copper, 0.5% tin, and 1.5% zinc, weighing 3.24 grams with a diameter of 19.05 mm and a plain edge. The obverse of the coin features the bust of Queen Elizabeth II wearing a tiara, designed by Arnold Machin, while the reverse shows two maple leaves on the same twig, a design by G. E. Kruger-Gray. This coin was minted in a large quantity of over 701 million pieces and is non-magnetic with a medal alignment. Its inscription reads “ELIZABETH II D – G – REGINA” on the obverse and “1 CENT 1976 CANADA” on the reverse. Circulated coins show signs of wear, and the melt value is around $0.035 CAD as of September 2025.
