The Canadian 5 cents coins minted in 2021 feature the classic beaver design on the reverse, created by artist G.E. Kruger-Gray and in use since 1937, while the obverse shows an uncrowned bust of Queen Elizabeth II designed by Dora de Pédery-Hunt or Susanna Blunt depending on the mint variety. These coins are composed primarily of nickel-plated steel, weighing 3.95 grams, with a diameter of 21.2 mm and a smooth edge. Produced by the Royal Canadian Mint, they were issued in both circulation and proof finishes, maintaining the tradition of the “Nickel” denomination despite the main material being steel since 2000. The reverse legend is “5 CENTS CANADA 2021” and the obverse legend is “ELIZABETH II D – G – REGINA”. Some proof collectibles in 2021 were also struck in pure silver, exclusively for collector sets.
