1959 – 10 Cents Dime Canada

The 1959 Canadian 10-cent coin, commonly known as the dime, features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse designed by Mary Gillick, and on the reverse, it displays the famous Bluenose schooner, a celebrated racing and fishing vessel symbolizing Nova Scotia and Canadian maritime heritage, designed by Emanuel Hahn. The coin is composed of 80% silver and 20% copper, weighs 2.33 grams, and has a diameter of 18.03 mm. It is the smallest Canadian coin physically and reflects the Canadian fishing industry’s significance during its time, with a mintage of approximately 19.7 million in 1959.
