The Ansco Buster Brown Folding No.2A camera was produced by Ansco around the 1910s to early 1920s as an answer to Kodak’s popular Brownie box cameras. It features a basic wooden box design with the body made entirely of wood, including the internal film chamber, and covered in imitation leather. The camera uses No. 2A (116) roll film and includes both vertical and horizontal viewfinders. It has a shutter lever with a tab to select three aperture sizes, as well as a bulb mode for time exposures. A distinctive feature is the D-ring film advance key that flips out for film winding and tucks neatly away afterward. The camera was designed for ease of use, reliability, and to appeal to amateur photographers, born from the popularity of comic strips like “Buster Brown” which it was named after, paralleling Kodak’s Brownie naming.
