The 1920 Canadian Large 1 cent coin was minted with a diameter of 25.4 mm and weighed 5.67 grams, composed of 95% copper, 4% tin, and 1% zinc. It featured a plain edge and was non-magnetic. The obverse displayed the bust of King George V with the inscription “GEORGIVS V DEI GRATIA : REX ET IND : IMP :”, while the reverse showed a serpentine motif of 16 maple leaves surrounded by a beaded circle, inscribed with “ONE CENT CANADA – 1920.” This design was created by Sir Edgar Bertram Mackennal on the obverse and William Henry James Blakemore on the reverse. Approximately 6.7 million of these large cents were circulated before the size was reduced later in 1920 for economic reasons.
