The Agfa Clack is a medium format box camera produced by Agfa from 1954 to 1965, designed as a simple and economical camera for the mass market. It has a black metal body covered in imitation reptile leather, giving it a distinct vintage look. The camera uses 120 roll film to produce large 6×9 cm negatives, which are well-suited for contact printing with minimal enlargement. The Clack features a single-element meniscus lens with two aperture settings (f/10 to f/16) and a fixed shutter speed of about 1/30 second, plus a bulb mode for long exposures, allowing some flexibility in shooting conditions. It also includes a built-in yellow filter for improved contrast on black and white film, a close-up lens option, a tripod socket, and a cable release connection. With around 1.65 million units made, it was more popular than all other Agfa box models combined. The camera’s design includes a curved film plane to match the lens’s focal plane, helping compensate for its simple optics, making it a fun, lightweight camera that is easy to use and capable of producing decent images despite its simplicity.
