1968 – 10 Cents Dime Canada – Silver

The 1968 Canadian 10 cents silver coin, also known as the Bluenose dime, is composed of 50% silver and 50% copper with a weight of 2.33 grams and a diameter of 18.03 mm. This non-magnetic coin features the obverse design of Queen Elizabeth II wearing a tiara, designed by Arnold Machin, with the legend “ELIZABETH II D – G – REGINA.” The reverse side depicts the famous Canadian schooner Bluenose under full sail, a symbol of Nova Scotia and the maritime heritage of Canada, designed by Emanuel Hahn, with the inscriptions “CANADA,” the year “1968,” and the face value “10 CENTS.” The edge of the coin is reeded and it has a medal alignment (↑↑). Approximately 70,460,000 of these silver coins were minted by the Royal Canadian Mint. The 1968 silver dime holds a precious metal melt value around $2.22 as of late 2025, reflecting its half silver content.
