The coin’s obverse side displays a bust of Queen Elizabeth II wearing a tiara, designed by Arnold Machin, with the inscription “ELIZABETH II D – G – REGINA.” The reverse side showcases a caribou head facing left created by Emanuel Hahn, with the denomination “25 CENTS” and the word “CANADA” inscribed. The coin has a reeded edge and is magnetic due to its nickel composition. In 1982, around 171,926,000 of these coins were minted by the Royal Canadian Mint, with finishes including circulation, uncirculated, specimen, and proof versions.
