The 1986 Canadian 1 dollar coin, known as the Voyageur dollar, is made of 100% nickel, weighing 15.62 grams with a diameter of 32.13 mm and a reeded edge. Its obverse features a bust of Queen Elizabeth II wearing a tiara, designed by Arnold Machin, and the reverse depicts a voyageur and a First Nations man paddling a canoe, designed by Emanuel Hahn. This coin was minted by the Royal Canadian Mint with a mintage of over 3 million and was originally intended to replace the dollar bill, but it was never fully released for circulation as the dies for the planned design were lost in transit, leading to a new design and coin release in 1987.
