The 1993 Canadian 5 cents coin, commonly called a nickel, features a design with a beaver sitting on a log on the reverse side, surrounded by the inscription “CANADA” and the face value “5 CENTS 1993.” The obverse showcases a bust of Queen Elizabeth II wearing a crown decorated with roses, shamrocks, and thistles, designed by Dora de Pédery-Hunt. The coin is made of a cupro-nickel alloy (75% copper, 25% nickel), weighs 4.6 grams, is 21.2 mm in diameter, non-magnetic, with a plain edge and medal alignment. It had a large mintage of 86,877,000 coins and represents a business strike showing typical signs of circulation wear. The reverse design featuring the beaver was created by G. E. Kruger-Gray and has been a Canadian icon since 1937. The mint mark details and multiple varieties/errors such as die chips and doubled dates exist for collectors.
