2000 – 25 Cents Quarter Canada – Community Commemorative Coin

The community commemorative quarter issued by Canada in 2000 is part of a special Millennium series of twelve quarters, each representing a theme that looks toward the nation’s future. The 2000 “Community” quarter, like the others in the set, was designed based on public submissions that reflected key Canadian values and aspirations. Each coin in the series, including “Community,” features a distinct design symbolizing its theme and is inscribed with “CANADA” and the theme’s name in both English and French. The obverse features Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Dora de Pédery-Hunt, while the reverse art for each quarter was created by different Canadian artists. These quarters are composed primarily of steel with a nickel and copper plating, and were intended not only for collectors but also for general circulation to mark the turn of the millennium and Canada’s vision for the 21st century.
