The Canadian 5-cent coin made in 2005 is primarily composed of copper-plated steel, containing 94.5% steel, 3.5% copper, and 2% nickel plating, with a weight of 3.95 grams and a diameter of 21.1 mm. Its obverse side features an uncrowned bust of Queen Elizabeth II designed by Dora de Pédery-Hunt, with the inscription “ELIZABETH II D – G – REGINA.” The reverse side depicts a beaver sitting on a log above the word “CANADA,” flanked by two maple leaves and the denomination “5 CENTS,” a design originally created by G. E. Kruger-Gray. The coin has a plain edge and is magnetic due to its steel content. Additionally, 2005 saw a special “Victory” version of the 5-cent coin commemorating the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II, featuring a “V” with a torch in the center and interrupted serrations on the edge. Both coins were minted by the Royal Canadian Mint in circulation, uncirculated, and specimen finishes.
