The 2012 Canadian 1 cent non-magnetic coin was part of the last production batch of pennies before the Canadian penny was discontinued. It features a copper-plated zinc composition, weighing 2.25 grams, with a diameter of 19.05 mm and a plain edge. The obverse shows an uncrowned bust of Queen Elizabeth II with the inscription “ELIZABETH II D – G – REGINA,” while the reverse design displays two maple leaves on the same twig, known as the “Maple Leaf Twig.” This coin does not stick to a magnet, differentiating it from the earlier 2012 magnetic copper-plated steel variety. About 87,972,000 of these non-magnetic coins were minted for circulation by the Royal Canadian Mint with finishes including circulation, uncirculated, and proof. The coin carries a medal alignment axis and was designed by Susanna Blunt (obverse) and G. E. Kruger-Gray (reverse).
