The 2021 Canadian 10-cent coin commemorates the 100th anniversary of the launch of the iconic Bluenose schooner, a celebrated symbol of Nova Scotia and Canada’s maritime heritage. Designed by marine artist Yves Bérubé, the reverse features a dynamic image of the Bluenose under full sail, heeled to port on the open ocean, with the 1921-2021 double date to mark the centennial. This year, the Royal Canadian Mint issued a special coloured version—the first coloured 10-cent circulation coin—with blue-painted waves surrounding the schooner, vividly bringing to life the deep waters of the North Atlantic. The obverse bears the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt. The coin carries traditional specifications, weighing 1.75 grams with a diameter of 18.03 mm, composed mainly of steel plated with nickel and copper. These special commemorative coins were issued alongside the regular 2021 Bluenose dimes as part of a tribute to the schooner’s enduring legacy as a racing champion and emblem of Canadian innovation and pride.
