2021 – 2 Dollars Toonie Canada

In 2021, Canada issued two notable $2 polar bear coins. One is a standard circulation coin featuring the iconic design by Brent Townsend of an adult polar bear standing on an ice floe in the Arctic summer, embodying strength and resilience; this bi-metallic coin has a nickel-plated steel outer ring and brass-plated aluminum bronze core with a diameter of 28 mm and a weight of 6.92 grams. The other is a special Renewed Silver Toonie from a commemorative series celebrating the 25th anniversary of the $2 coin, which reproduces the 2006 Arctic-themed design by Tony Bianco showing a polar bear gazing up at the aurora borealis; this collectible version is larger, made of 99.99% pure silver with selective gold plating, and limited to 2,500 coins, bearing double dates “1996-2021” on the obverse with Queen Elizabeth II’s effigy by Susanna Blunt.
