The 2024 Canadian $2 coins celebrating Inuit Nunangat feature a groundbreaking reverse design collaboratively created by four Inuit artists representing the four treaty areas of Inuit Nunangat: Nunatsiavut, Nunavik, Nunavut, and the Inuvialuit Settlement Region. The coin’s reverse displays the spirit Nuliajuk in a traditional atigi (parka), surrounded by Arctic wildlife like a walrus, beluga whales, a seal, and an Arctic char, along with four unique representations of the ulu knife specific to each region, symbolizing the distinct artistic voices and cultural unity of Inuit Nunangat. These commemorative coins stand out with selective colorization to highlight their meaningful design, which honors Inuit culture, heritage, and diversity, while the obverse features King Charles III’s effigy. The coins began circulating in November 2024 and were produced in limited quantities with two million colorized pieces available to the public.
