The Canadian 2 dollar coin issued in 2008 to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the founding of Quebec City features a unique design by Quebec City native Genevi\u00e8ve Bertrand. The reverse side of the coin depicts a fleur-de-lis, a ship, and stylized lines representing the waters of the St. Lawrence River, symbolizing the historic founding of Quebec City in 1608. This commemorative toonie’s date is placed on the outer ring with “1608” on the left and “2008” on the right, and it was produced in a limited circulation of six million coins alongside the regular polar bear design. The coin’s composition comprises an outer ring of 99% nickel and an inner core of 92% copper, 6% aluminum, and 2% nickel, weighing 7.3 grams with a diameter of 28 mm. The design was engraved by Mint Engraver William Woodruff and marked a special tribute to Quebec City’s heritage and its importance in Canadian history.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
