1913 – 10 Cents Dime Canada – Small Leaves

The 1913 Canadian 10 cents “Small Leaves” variety is a silver coin minted by the Royal Canadian Mint consisting of 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper (sterling silver) with a diameter of 18.03 mm and a reeded edge. Its obverse features a bust of King George V designed by Sir Edgar Bertram Mackennal, while the reverse showcases a crown on top with 22 smaller, less-veined maple leaves arranged on two boughs tied with a ribbon, a design distinct from the broader Edwardian leaves used earlier in the year. This “Small Leaves” design was introduced later in 1913 and used until 1936, characterized by a wider gap between the leaves and the rim, and has a mintage of approximately 3,613,937 coins for circulation. It is a non-magnetic coin with a medal alignment axis, valued for its historical significance and silver content, with prices varying widely based on condition from as low as around $4.60 CAD for circulated coins to over $2,300 CAD in mint state uncirculated grades.
