Minted by the Royal Mint for circulation, it features on the obverse the left-facing bust of King George V with the inscription “GEORGIVS V DEI GRA: REX ET IND: IMP:”, designed by Sir Edgar Bertram Mackennal, while the reverse shows two maple leaves flanking the words “CANADA FIVE 5 CENTS 1928,” designed by William Henry James Blakemore. The coin had a mintage of 4,588,725 pieces and is notable for being part of the nickel “small” 5 cent series used from 1922 to 1936.
