The obverse features a bust of King George VI, designed by Thomas Humphrey Paget, with the inscription “GEORGIVS VI D : G : REX ET IND : IMP :”. The reverse, designed by G. E. Kruger-Gray, displays two maple leaves on the same twig with the inscription “1 CENT 1944 CANADA”. It was minted by the Royal Canadian Mint with a circulation mintage of over 44 million coins and is non-magnetic. The coin exhibits typical business strike characteristics, showing signs of wear if circulated, with values ranging widely depending on condition from a few cents to thousands of dollars for mint-state specimens.
