The 1 cent coin made by Canada in 1947 features the bust of King George VI on the obverse, bearing the legend “GEORGIVS VI D : G : REX ET IND : IMP :,” and two maple leaves on a single twig on the reverse, with the inscriptions “1 CENT 1947 CANADA”. Designed by Thomas Humphrey Paget (obverse) and G. E. Kruger-Gray (reverse), this coin is composed of 98% copper, 0.5% tin, and 1.5% zinc, weighs 3.24 grams, measures 19.05 mm in diameter, and has a smooth (plain) edge. There are several varieties, including those with a pointed or blunt “7” in the date, and some feature a small maple leaf next to the date due to production delays after India’s independence. Over 30 million of these coins were produced for circulation by the Royal Canadian Mint.
