The obverse shows the bust of Queen Elizabeth II with a laurel wreath, engraved by Mary Gillick, and the reverse presents two maple leaves on the same twig, designed by G.E. Kruger-Gray. Around 56.4 million such coins were produced for circulation by the Royal Canadian Mint. The “Shoulder Fold” refers to a modification made to improve detail and strike quality after issues were discovered with earlier high-relief portraits. The coin’s legends are “ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA” on the obverse, and “1 CENT 1955 CANADA” on the reverse.
