The 1964 Canadian 5 cents coin is a nickel composition coin minted by the Royal Canadian Mint, featuring a magnetic plain edge with a diameter of 21.21 mm and weighing 4.54 grams. Its obverse design displays the laureate bust of Queen Elizabeth II, with the inscription “ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA,” designed by Mary Gillick. The reverse side shows a beaver sitting on a rock-studded mound of earth rising out of the water with a log beside it, designed by G. E. Kruger-Gray. This coin was struck in large quantities with a mintage of 78,075,068 and carries a medal alignment (↑↑). It was issued in circulation, uncirculated, and specimen finishes, making it a classic piece of Canadian numismatic history.
