The Canadian 5 cents coin from 1970 is a business strike nickel coin made of 99.9% nickel, weighing 4.54 grams with a diameter of 21.21 mm and a plain edge. Its obverse features a bust of Queen Elizabeth II wearing a tiara, designed by Arnold Machin, while the reverse showcases a beaver on a log, designed by G. E. Kruger-Gray, which is a hallmark design introduced in 1937. The coin bears the inscriptions “ELIZABETH II D – G – REGINA” on the obverse and “5 CENTS CANADA 1970” on the reverse. It has a magnetic property due to its nickel composition and was minted by the Royal Canadian Mint in circulation, uncirculated, and specimen finishes, with a mintage of 5,726,010 coins. The melt value of the coin is about $0.12 CAD, and it shows signs of wear in circulated conditions but can also be found in mint state grades up to MS-67 for collectors.
