The 2003 Canadian 10 cents coin with the old effigy features on the obverse a crowned bust of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Dora de Pédery-Hunt, showing the Queen wearing a circular diamond crown adorned with roses, shamrocks, and thistles, with the legend “ELIZABETH II D – G – REGINA.” The reverse side displays a stylized image of the Bluenose schooner, a famous Canadian racing and fishing vessel, designed by Emanuel Hahn, accompanied by the inscriptions “CANADA 2003 10 CENTS.” This coin is made of copper-plated steel (92% steel, 5.5% copper, 2.5% nickel), is magnetic, has a diameter of 18.03 mm, weight of 1.75 g, and a reeded edge. It was minted by the Royal Canadian Mint with a circulation mintage of approximately 163,684,000 coins. The old effigy version was struck early in the year before being replaced by a new effigy design later in 2003, making it a notable variety for collectors.
