The Canadian 5 cents coin minted in 2008 features a copper-plated steel composition consisting of 94.5% steel, 3.5% copper, and 2% nickel plating, making it magnetic. It weighs 3.95 grams and has a diameter of 21.1 mm with a smooth (plain) edge. The obverse side displays an uncrowned right-facing bust of Queen Elizabeth II with the inscription “ELIZABETH II D – G – REGINA” designed by Dora de Pédery-Hunt. The reverse shows the iconic beaver sitting on a log, with the denomination “5 CENTS,” the country name “CANADA,” and two maple leaves on either side, designed by G.E. Kruger-Gray. The coin is minted by the Royal Canadian Mint and had a mintage of approximately 278.5 million for circulation. The coin comes in circulation and uncirculated finishes with medal alignment (↑↑).
