The 2009 Canadian 25-cent coin featuring Cindy Klassen is a commemorative piece celebrating her historic achievement of winning five medals at the 2006 Turin Winter Olympics, including one gold, two silver, and two bronze. The coin, made of copper-plated steel, weighs 4.4 grams and measures 23.88 mm in diameter with a reeded edge. It was produced by the Royal Canadian Mint, with a mintage of 22 million coins, approximately 3 million of which feature a brilliant red-colored maple leaf, made using patented technology. The obverse of the coin shows an uncrowned bust of Queen Elizabeth II, while the reverse showcases Cindy Klassen in a speed skating pose, accompanied by a maple leaf and the Canadian Olympic Committee logo, with the inscription “CINDY 2006 KLASSEN.” Designed by Jason Bouwman and Susanna Blunt, the coin honors Klassen’s impressive Olympic success and was released into circulation as part of the Olympic Winter Games series.
