The 2009 Canadian men’s hockey 25-cent coin was issued by the Royal Canadian Mint to commemorate the men’s hockey gold medal victory at the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics, which was voted the #1 Canadian Olympic Winter Games Moment ever; it has a composition of copper-plated steel (94% steel, 3.8% copper, 2.2% nickel), weighs 4.4 g, measures 23.88 mm in diameter, and features a reeded edge with medal alignment. The obverse side has an uncrowned bust of Queen Elizabeth II designed by Susanna Blunt, while the reverse, designed by Jason Bouwman, shows the inscription “2002 MEN’S HOCKEY MASCULIN” along with an image representing the men’s hockey moment. Approximately 22 million circulation coins were minted, including a special colored edition of 3 million with a red maple leaf, which was placed randomly into circulation and sold at select locations in Canada.
