The coin has a diameter of 23.88 mm, is made of copper-plated steel (94% steel, 3.8% copper, 2.2% nickel), and weighs 4.4 grams. The obverse side displays the uncrowned bust of Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt, with inscriptions including “ELIZABETH II D – G – REGINA.” Approximately 97,440,000 of these quarters were minted for circulation in 2014 by the Royal Canadian Mint in Winnipeg. The design reflects Canada’s wildlife heritage and continues a historic tradition since 1937 of featuring the caribou, a symbol of Canadian nature, on the quarter.
