2017 – 2 Dollars Toonie Canada – 150 Years

The 2017 Canada 2 dollar coin, known as the “Dance of the Spirits” toonie, commemorates Canada’s 150th anniversary and features an evocative design by artist Timothy Hsia that depicts two paddlers gliding across a calm lake beneath the shimmering Aurora Borealis, which the Cree peoples called “the dance of the spirits.” This coin is bi-metallic, with an outer ring of nickel-plated steel and an inner core of brass-plated aluminum bronze, and was issued in brilliant uncirculated condition for general circulation without color in contrast to a special glow-in-the-dark colored version. The coin also includes the Canada 150 logo, a mosaic of 13 triangular shapes representing each province and territory, linking the design to the historic Canadian confederation emblem. The uncolored version emphasizes the intricate engraved scene of the northern lights and paddlers, celebrating Canadian natural beauty and heritage in its 150-year milestone year.​
