The 2019 Canadian $2 D-Day coins commemorate the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings, honoring the 14,000 Canadians who were part of the 150,000 Allied troops that landed on Juno Beach, Normandy on June 6, 1944. Designed by Canadian artist Alan Daniel, the coins feature a dramatic scene of Canadian soldiers peering from their landing craft as they approach the beach, symbolizing the tense anticipation of the operation. The outer ring of the coin depicts naval and air support, including ships and aircraft such as a Royal Canadian Navy destroyer and Royal Canadian Air Force Spitfires and barrage balloons. The colored version highlights selective coloring to enhance visual impact, while both versions share inscriptions such as “D-DAY/LE JOUR J” above the soldiers’ helmets and “REMEMBER/SOUVENIR” alongside the year 2019 at the bottom. The obverse side shows the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt. Only three million coins were minted, with two million featuring color, available in circulation and special rolls with limited editions of 15,000 colored rolls.
