The 2023 Canadian 10-cent coin, also known as the dime, features the first circulation strike with the new effigy of His Majesty King Charles III on the obverse, replacing the previous Queen Elizabeth II design. The reverse continues to showcase the iconic Bluenose schooner, a symbol of Canada’s maritime heritage, designed by Emanuel Hahn. The coin is made of 92% steel, 5.5% copper, and 2.5% nickel, weighs 1.75 grams, measures 18.03 mm in diameter, and has a reeded edge. The obverse design was crafted by Susanna Blunt and Susant Taylor, and this coin was minted at the Royal Canadian Mint’s Winnipeg facility. The 2023 dime is notable for having no traditional circulation coins issued with the Queen Elizabeth II image; instead, all feature King Charles III, reflecting the change in Canadian monarchs. Special “First Strikes” collections with these 2023 dimes were also released with holographic labels for collectors.
