The 2025 Canadian $2 coins commemorate the life and art of Daphne Odjig, a pioneering First Nations artist and cultural advocate. These coins come in two versions: a colored one and an uncolored one, both featuring the same design. The reverse side of the coins showcases a vibrant adaptation of Odjig’s artwork “Folk Singer,” selectively enhanced with white, yellow, brown, blue, and black colors on the colored version, and an engraved version on the uncolored coin. The outer ring depicts two images of a fisher, a visual representation linked to Odjig’s surname, and inscriptions including “DAPHNE ODJIG,” “CANADA,” and “2 DOLLARS,” along with maple leaf security marks. The obverse features the effigy of His Majesty King Charles III, designed by Canadian artist Steven Rosati. These coins are notable as the first Canadian circulation coins to focus on the life and work of a First Nations woman artist, celebrating her legacy as both an artist and a cultural activist. Each coin weighs 6.99 grams and measures 28 mm in diameter, made of a three-ply nickel-plated steel outer ring and a three-ply brass-plated aluminum bronze inner core, and they began circulating in September 2025.
