The 1952 Canadian 1 cent coin is a copper-based coin composed of 98% copper, 0.5% tin, and 1.5% zinc, with a weight of 3.24 grams and a diameter of 19.05 millimeters. It features on the obverse the bust of King George VI with the inscription “GEORGIVS VI DEI GRATIA REX,” designed by Thomas Humphrey Paget. The reverse shows two maple leaves on a single twig, a classic Canadian symbol, designed by G. E. Kruger-Gray, with the text “1 CENT 1952 CANADA.” The coin has a plain (smooth) edge and was minted by the Royal Canadian Mint with a total circulation mintage of about 67.6 million coins. These coins show signs of wear typical of circulated business strikes, and their melt value is approximately four cents CAD. The 1952 coin is notable as one of the last to feature King George VI before the transition to Queen Elizabeth II’s effigy on subsequent pennies.
