2003 – 5 Cents Canada – New Effigy

The 2003 Canadian 5 cents coin with the new effigy features an uncrowned bust of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse, designed by Susanna Blunt, replacing the earlier crowned effigy used that year. The reverse side retains the classic design of a beaver sitting on a log, created by G. E. Kruger-Gray. This coin is made of copper-plated steel (94.5% steel, 3.5% copper, 2% nickel), weighs 3.95 grams, measures 21.1 mm in diameter, and has a plain smooth edge. It is magnetic and minted by the Royal Canadian Mint, with a circulation mintage of about 61 million pieces. The obverse inscription reads “ELIZABETH II D – G – REGINA,” and the reverse says “5 CENTS CANADA 2003”.
