The 1929 Canadian 5-cent coin is a pure nickel coin introduced as part of the series that replaced the earlier smaller silver versions for practicality and national resource use. The obverse features a portrait of King George V with the Latin inscription “GEORGIVS V DEI GRA:REX ET IND:IMP,” meaning “George V, by the grace of God, King and Emperor of India.” The reverse displays two iconic Canadian maple leaves, symbolizing the country. Designed by Sir Edgar Bertram Mackennal (obverse) and William Henry James Blakemore (reverse), this coin has a plain smooth edge, weighs 4.54 grams, and measures 21.21 mm in diameter. It was minted in large numbers, with over 5.6 million produced, making it a common collectible piece today.
