The Anscoflex is a distinctive twin lens box camera produced by Ansco in the mid-1950s, notable for its iconic Mid-Century Modern design by renowned industrial designer Raymond Loewy. It shoots 6x6cm images on 620 roll film and features a fixed focus lens with a single shutter speed, aimed at simplicity and ease of use for amateur photographers. The original Anscoflex and its improved version, the Anscoflex II, include a brilliant waist-level viewfinder, with the II adding close-up and yellow filters for enhanced photo control. Its bold design, characterized by an aluminum sliding “garage door” over the lenses and a bright red anodized shutter button, sets it apart visually from other box cameras of the era while maintaining straightforward “point and shoot” operation without exposure adjustments. The camera is often admired for both its aesthetic appeal and functional simplicity within its era’s photographic technology.
