The 1977 Canadian 5 cents coin “High 7” variety features the last digit “7” in the date positioned higher than the other digits. It is composed of nickel, weighs 4.54 grams, and has a diameter of 21.21 mm with a plain (smooth) edge. The obverse shows a bust of Queen Elizabeth II wearing a tiara, designed by Arnold Machin, with the legend “ELIZABETH II D – G – REGINA.” The reverse depicts a beaver sitting on a log, surrounded by the inscriptions “5 CENTS CANADA 1977” and maple leaves, designed by G. E. Kruger-Gray. This variety is scarcer than the “Low 7” variety among circulated coins but is not rare in proof-like or specimen sets. The coin is magnetic and minted by the Royal Canadian Mint with a medal alignment. Its typical melt value is about $0.12 CAD, and uncirculated values can reach up to around $154 CAD in high grades.
