2019 – 2 Dollars Toonie Canada – D-Day

The 2019 Canadian $2 coins commemorating the 75th anniversary of D-Day feature a compelling design by Canadian artist Alan Daniel. The uncolored version presents a vivid perspective from the deck of a landing craft, showing three Canadian soldiers peering over the ramp as they approach Juno Beach in Normandy on June 6, 1944. The outer ring of the coin depicts naval ships and aircraft, representing the massive air and sea operation that supported the landing. Above the soldiers’ helmets is inscribed “D-DAY/LE JOUR J,” with “REMEMBER/SOUVENIR” and the year 2019 engraved at the bottom. The obverse shows the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt. This uncolored coin captures the tension and significance of the historic military operation without the selective color present in the other 2019 coin edition.​
