The Canadian 5 cents coin from 1958 is a nickel coin weighing 4.54 grams with a diameter of 21.21 mm and a plain edge. It features on the obverse a right-facing bust of Queen Elizabeth II wearing a laurel wreath, designed by Mary Gillick, with the legend “ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA.” The reverse side depicts a beaver sitting on a log, a design by G. E. Kruger-Gray, along with the inscriptions “5 CENTS” and “CANADA 1958.” The coin is made of 100% nickel, is magnetic, and was minted by the Royal Canadian Mint with a circulation mintage of 7,607,521. The 1958 nickel retains the classic Canadian beaver design and was part of the series minted from 1953 to 1964 (with nickel composition except for earlier steel versions).
