The 1960 Canadian 5 cents coin is a nickel composition coin with a weight of 4.54 grams and a diameter of 21.21 mm. The obverse side features the laureate bust of Queen Elizabeth II wearing a laurel wreath, designed by Mary Gillick, with the Latin inscription “ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA” meaning “Elizabeth II, by the grace of God, the Queen.” The reverse side displays a beaver sitting on a rock-studded mound of earth rising out of the water, with a log that the beaver has been chewing, designed by G. E. Kruger-Gray. The coin has a plain smooth edge and a medal alignment axis. It was minted by the Royal Canadian Mint with a mintage of over 37 million coins. This 5 cents coin is magnetic due to its nickel composition and is known for its classic Canadian design representing national symbols.
