The 2012 Canadian 1 cent magnetic coin is a unique variety of Canada’s last penny issue, notable for its copper-plated steel composition which makes it magnetic. This coin, minted by the Royal Canadian Mint, has a composition of 94% steel, 4.5% copper, and 1.5% nickel, weighing 2.35 grams with a diameter of 19.05 mm and plain edge. The obverse features an uncrowned bust of Queen Elizabeth II designed by Susanna Blunt, while the reverse showcases two maple leaves on the same twig, a classic design by G.E. Kruger-Gray. The magnetic version had a mintage of 111,375,000 and was part of a short run before the penny was discontinued in Canada, making it distinctive compared to the non-magnetic copper-plated zinc variety minted the same year.
