2023 – 2 Dollars Toonie Canada – Riopelle Color

The 2023 Canadian $2 coins made to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Jean Paul Riopelle’s birth feature a distinctive, selectively coloured reverse that captures elements of his artwork, specifically inspired by his mural L’Hommage à Rosa Luxemburg. Each coin’s reverse depicts a detailed adaptation of the artwork using white, brown, blue, and grey inks, with the outer ring marked with the “Riopelle100” centenary mark. These coins are part of special wraps, containing 25 coins each, all uncirculated and selectively coloured, with a limited mintage of only 15,000 rolls, making them highly collectible. The obverse displays Queen Elizabeth II’s effigy by Susanna Blunt, and the coin design includes other security features like maple leaf marks and inscriptions on the edge.​
